Was Jesus Christ always the Son of God?
Many claim that Jesus Christ only became the Son of God at His incarnation, when He appeared on this earth. There are false conclusions that can be derived from this belief that I won't really go into (like the implication that Jesus was created), so it's important to get this doctrine, that Jesus Christ has always been the Son of God, right.
When Nebuchadnezzar had Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego thrown into the fiery furnace, we see a notable appearance of Jesus Christ as the Son of God, even before His incarnation:
Another indication of what's called the "eternal Sonship" doctrine is that God the Father sent Jesus Christ:
And finally, these scriptures provide yet more support for the position:
When Nebuchadnezzar had Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego thrown into the fiery furnace, we see a notable appearance of Jesus Christ as the Son of God, even before His incarnation:
- Then Nebuchadnezzar the king was astonied, and rose up in haste, [and] spake, and said unto his counsellers, Did not we cast three men bound into the midst of the fire? They answered and said unto the king, True, O king. He answered and said, Lo, I see four men loose, walking in the midst of the fire, and they have no hurt; and the form of the fourth is like the Son of God. (Daniel 3:24-25)
- ¶ I will declare the decree: the LORD hath said unto me, Thou [art] my Son; this day have I begotten thee. (Psalm 2:7)
- Kiss the Son, lest he be angry, and ye perish [from] the way, when his wrath is kindled but a little. Blessed [are] all they that put their trust in him. (Psalm 2:12)
Another indication of what's called the "eternal Sonship" doctrine is that God the Father sent Jesus Christ:
- Then said Jesus to them again, Peace [be] unto you: as [my] Father hath sent me, even so send I you. (John 20:21)
- But when the fulness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, made of a woman, made under the law, (Galatians 4:4)
- Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son [to be] the propitiation for our sins. (1 John 4:10)
- ¶ And we have seen and do testify that the Father sent the Son [to be] the Saviour of the world. (1 John 4:14)
And finally, these scriptures provide yet more support for the position:
- Who hath ascended up into heaven, or descended? who hath gathered the wind in his fists? who hath bound the waters in a garment? who hath established all the ends of the earth? what [is] his name, and what [is] his son's name, if thou canst tell? (Proverbs 30:4)
- ¶ Father, I will that they also, whom thou hast given me, be with me where I am; that they may behold my glory, which thou hast given me: for thou lovedst me before the foundation of the world. (John 17:24)
- ¶ I came forth from the Father, and am come into the world: again, I leave the world, and go to the Father. (John 16:28)
- Hath in these last days spoken unto us by [his] Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds; (Hebrews 1:2)
- Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever. (Hebrews 13:8)
